How to use the spinner
- Type an option and press Enter, or click Add. Click an option that is already there to edit the words.
- Click the wheel, or click Spin. The pointer at the top marks the winner.
- Spin again, or remove the winner and spin so that choice cannot come up twice.
What it is for
The Wheel Spinner is a random picker. Put in dinner ideas, names for a draw, or anything else you do not want to decide yourself. Every option on the wheel has the same chance. Duplicates are allowed, so you can give one choice more slices if you want it to come up more often. You need at least two options, and the wheel holds up to 24.
Reset options puts the sample list back. Your list is saved in this browser, so the same choices are here when you return on this device. It is a coin flip with more than two sides, not a poll and not a ranking.
How it works
The spin is chosen on your device with the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues) when available, falling back to Math.random - uniform over slices, so with N options each has probability 1/N. There is no account and nothing is sent to boosted.cafe. Clicking the wheel does the same thing as the Spin button: it picks a slice at random and turns until that slice sits under the pointer. Your list is saved in this browser's localStorage only.
Worked example: fair classroom draw
Put 24 student names on the wheel (the maximum) and spin once to pick a presenter: each name has a 1⁄24 ≈ 4.2% chance. Enable "remove winner" to draw a second presenter without replacement - the second draw is then 1⁄23. For weighted odds, add duplicates: entering "Maya" three times and "Leo" once gives Maya a 3⁄4 chance.
Limitations
This is a fair random picker, not a certified lottery device and not a poll: it records no votes and proves nothing to third parties. Screenshots of a spin can be re-spun, so don't use it where verifiable randomness matters. For a yes/no call use Yes or No Wheel; for drawing names with a dedicated display use Name Wheel; for shuffling a whole order at once use List Randomizer.
