How to use Binary Converter

  1. Type text in the top box to convert it to binary.
  2. Paste space-separated binary in the bottom box to convert it back to text.
  3. Copy the result with one click.

What it is for

Binary is how computers store text: every letter becomes a pattern of ones and zeros. Students use a binary converter to see that encoding in action, and developers use it to debug low-level data.

How it works

Each character is read as its UTF-8 bytes and shown as eight-bit groups. Pasting binary reverses the mapping back into characters. Both directions run instantly in your browser. For numbers (not text) across binary, octal, decimal, and hex, use the Base Converter; for hex-encoded text use the Hex Converter.

Worked example

Typing Hi yields 01001000 01101001 - H is U+0048 (72 = 64+8) and i is U+0069 (105 = 64+32+8+1). An emoji like 🙂 becomes four UTF-8 bytes (F0 9F 99 82), i.e. 32 bits, which is why emoji count as more than one character in many systems.
