Compress PDF

Compress a PDF with a quality slider or a target size. Pages are rebuilt as JPEG images, which removes selectable text, links, form fields, and digital signatures.

Files are processed locally and never leave your device.

How to compress PDF files

  1. Drop your PDF on the page, or click Upload files and choose it.
  2. Pick a quality level, or enter a target size in KB. A target rebuilds every page as a JPEG picture.
  3. Click Compress PDF and download the smaller file.

Adjustable quality

The quality slider tunes the compression, and a target size in KB aims for a file under that number by rebuilding each page as a JPEG picture. Photos and scans can drop to a fraction of their size at lower settings, while higher settings keep fine detail for print.

Easy to use

Drop a file, set a quality level or a target size, then compress and download. The result tells you the new size, and whether a target could not be reached, before you save the file.

Runs on your device, not in the cloud

Most online compressors send your document to a server and make you wait in a queue. This one compresses with your own browser's power, on your own machine, at full local speed. It works on any operating system - Windows, macOS, Linux, even a phone - because it is just a web page.

Nothing stored, ever

There is no upload step, so there is nothing to delete later. Your file never leaves the browser tab, never touches a server, and is gone the moment you close the page. Contracts, IDs, medical scans - whatever you compress stays yours alone.

What compresses best

Each page is drawn as a JPEG and the PDF is rebuilt from those images. Photos, scans, and slides can drop to a fraction of their size. Text-only PDFs are already compact, so they often shrink very little or come out larger - keep the original when that happens.

What the smaller file gives up

Because every page becomes a picture, text is no longer selectable or searchable. The rebuild also removes links, form fields, and digital signatures, along with fonts and the original page structure. The quality slider trades sharpness for size. A target size means at or below the number you type: sharper JPEGs are tried first, then smaller page pictures. The result says when the file is still above that target. Need different pages instead of smaller ones? Split PDF breaks a big document into pieces and Remove PDF Pages trims the ones you do not need.
