How to use the temperature converter
- Type a value in any of the four boxes: Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, or Rankine.
- The other three scales fill in instantly as you type.
- Clear the box to start a fresh conversion.
The conversion formulas
Everything pivots through Kelvin: K = °C + 273.15, K = (°F + 459.67) × 5/9, °R = K × 9/5. For full length, weight, and volume conversions see the unit converter.
When each scale wins
Celsius rules daily life and science, Fahrenheit survives in American weather and cooking, Kelvin owns physics and chemistry, and Rankine lingers in older US engineering thermodynamics. Pivoting everything through Kelvin avoids the classic sign error of converting °F straight to °C inside formulas. For weather, remember the anchors: 0°C = 32°F freezing, 100°C = 212°F boiling, and -40° where both scales meet.
