- Copy a single UUID or all of them at once.
What it is for
A UUID is a 128-bit identifier so unlikely to collide that databases, APIs, and distributed systems use it as a primary key. Version 4 is the common kind: 122 random bits.
How it works
Each UUID is built from crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographic generator, formatted in the standard 8-4-4-4-12 layout with the version and variant bits set.
UUIDs versus auto-increment IDs
Database IDs that count 1, 2, 3 leak your row count and invite scraping; random UUIDs reveal nothing and let offline clients create records without a central counter. That is why distributed systems, APIs, and sync engines mint version-4 UUIDs locally. Collisions need about 2.7 quintillion generations to reach even odds - effectively never - so uniqueness holds without coordination.
