How to use Base64 Encode/Decode
- Type text in the top box and encode it to Base64.
- Paste Base64 in the bottom box and decode it back to text.
- Copy either result with one click.
What it is for
Base64 turns any bytes into safe ASCII characters so text can travel through systems that only handle plain letters and numbers, like email, JSON payloads, and data URLs.
How it works
Encoding uses UTF-8-safe conversion, so emoji and accented characters survive the round trip. Decoding is strict: invalid Base64 is reported instead of silently corrupted.
Where Base64 shows up
Base64 appears anywhere binary data must ride inside text: email attachments, JSON web tokens, data URLs that embed images straight into HTML or CSS, and authorization headers. Its cousin base64url swaps in URL-safe characters for web tokens and short links. If you are encoding for a URL query or filename, encode here first, then replace + with -, / with _, and strip the trailing = padding.
